According to an ancient greek mythology Danaë was the daughter of King Acrisius of Argos.An oracle told him that he will be killed by the son of his daughter.So the King decided to keep her issueless and shut her up in a tower.Here in this tower Zeus(Jupiter) came to her as a shower of gold and made her pregnent.later she gave birth to a son Perseus.he killed the king Acrisius and the prophecy of the oracle came true..

This beautiful and rare oil on canvas painting is a master piece of a Swedish artist Adolf Ulrik Wertmüller (1751-1811.Every one admires his mastery over lights and shades and the dynamic colours.He created beautiful portraits of George Washington.One is owned by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and the other was purchased by the Government of America in 1878.
